Chatsworth Closed Season Experience
From early January to late March every year, Chatsworth closes its doors to visitors. During this time Chatsworth’s expert team undertakes a programme of essential conservation and preservation throughout the house, caring for works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud. The team are also busy installing the exhibition for the forthcoming season at Chatsworth, preparing for when the house reopens in March.
Although Chatsworth is closed to visitors while this work takes place, guests at our hotels, inns and holiday cottages have the opportunity to experience a specially curated closed season tour of Chatsworth House and witness the team of experts caring for the house and collection as they prepare for the new season. The tour also includes special behind the scenes access to areas that are not normally accessible to visitors when the house is open.
One of our specialist house guides will take you on a journey around the house, giving you the opportunity to visit some of the most impressive rooms such as the Painted Hall, State Apartments, Guest Bedrooms, Great Dining Room and Sculpture Gallery, as well as behind the scenes areas rarely seen by visitors, such as the old kitchen, confectionery, cellars, plunge pool and theatre.
There are a limited number of these tours conducted each year and they are only available to guests at our hotels, inns and holiday cottages.

The Closed Season Experience tour take place Monday to Friday, beginning on 18th January and ending 26th February 2027.
The meeting time is 10:45 am and the tour starts at 11:00 am. Tour Duration: 1.5 hours
