The Hide Opens Its Doors

London, October 2025. Set in moorland on the edge of Chatsworth Estate, The Hide opens its doors this week, providing an affordable yet stylish base for those looking to connect with nature and the great outdoors.  From the team behind the acclaimed The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow, Chatsworth Escapes, this new Peak District hotel is set to appeal to families and groups of all sizes, dog lovers, solo travellers, nature enthusiasts and adventurers.

Design + Rooms

Deeply rooted in its surroundings, The Hide celebrates its connection with Chatsworth and the local community, with historical prints, personal family pictures and artefacts sourced from Chatsworth e found in guest rooms and public spaces.  Inspired by the cabins, stone barns and hides in the surrounding landscape, the interiors are styled with natural, locally crafted textiles, reclaimed furniture and open fires to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

with the Hide’s interiors incorporate pieces from local artists Doreen Lowe and Grahame Wheatley as well as works sourced from the Devonshire family’s private collection by artists including Helen Marten, Camille Henrot, Richard Smith, Claudette Johnson and Oisin Byrne. Corridor walls are lined with contemporary art posters collected over the years, while bedrooms feature botanical woodcuts by Christoforo Acosta.

Everyone is welcome in the Hide’s 25 rooms, with Cosy Rooms for one or two people through to Spacious Rooms and Bunk Rooms which are perfect for families. Reclaimed furniture has been paired with contemporary pieces from British brands, with side tables made from offcuts by local makers alongside former school chairs and repurposed historical metal lamps found at Chatsworth. Blankets are from a local weaver in Yorkshire and the curtains are made on the estate, using British-made wool.

Food

Overseen by Executive Chef Adam Harper, The Hide Grill and Pizzeria is inspired by classic outdoor cooking to create the feeling of eating by a campfire in the Peak District landscape. Using locally sourced ingredients from estate farms and gardens and trusted suppliers, guests can expect smoky feasts on the grill, wood-fired pizzas in stone ovens, steaks and burgers, all served with family style sides. Desserts are made with kids in mind, with an ice cream and topping station and s’mores by the fire pit when the weather allows.

For those exploring the Peak District, a ploughman’s tiffin lunch box can be prepared to take away, with tea and cake served on return. During the summer months, a large terrace with views across the open countryside is the perfect spot for BBQ evenings, live music, pop-up street food vendors or simply a coffee or cocktail. 

Exploring

Guests can enjoy direct access to 35,000 acres of park and moorland, as well as entry to Chatsworth House, Garden, Farmyard and Adventure Playground. As part of their stay, those staying at The Hide can add exclusive perks including multi-entry tickets to Chatsworth and private tours of the house when it is closed to the public, plus the opportunity to go fishing on the banks of the Derwent that pass through the estate, and access to both the Chatsworth health club and golf course. In addition, guests can take part in an exciting programme of exhibitions and events centred around art, culture and literature, with Chatsworth’s spectacular Christmas celebrations opening on 8th November.

For families, Chatsworth has a calendar of hands-on craft workshops where children and adults, can learn new skills inspired by art, heritage and landscape.  A working farmyard and wooded play area are the perfect places for learning and adventure.

With the Peak District on its doorstep, The Hide offers guests an opportunity to discover all the National Park has to offer. From crossing the stepping stones at Dovedale, rock climbing at Stanage Edge and hiking, riding or cycling the Monsal Trail to exploring local villages and visiting Derbyshire’s favourite makers and craftspeople.
