How to spend 4 days at our Peak District hotels
Try our four day itinerary for your next visit to the Peak District
All our hotels sit on the Chatsworth Estate, giving unrivalled access to nature, with moorland, historic villages, and estate grounds right outside our doors. With plenty of things to do in the Peak District, here we bring together the best outdoor, cultural and dining experiences you can try during your stay with us.
Day 1: Check in and explore Chatsworth
Most visitors to Chatsworth start with the House. All our hotels are a short distance away, typically within a 15 minute drive. Spend an afternoon exploring and learning about the Devonshire’s family history as you move through rooms including the grand painted hall, the family-used chapel, regal state rooms, and the sculpture gallery.
It is possible to walk to Chatsworth from each of our hotels, with many popular walking routes to and from the house. During summer, you can catch the Peak Sightseer, an open top bus service which lets you enjoy the National Park’s scenery as you move between the area’s best destinations.

For dinner, choose between the relaxed atmosphere of The Cavendish’s Garden Room, outdoor summer dining at The Hide Hotel, or a seat by the fire at The Beeley Inn or The Pilsley Inn. All serve seasonal food sourced from across the estate and local producers.
Our restaurants work directly with local farmers, gardeners, and the people who manage the land. Executive Chef Adam Harper oversees our menus, working with Chatsworth and some of the Peak District’s best known producers.
Try estate reared venison, sustainable Ladybower trout, fruit, salad, and vegetables grown in the Chatsworth Kitchen Garden, and beef and lamb from the 5,000 acre Chatsworth Farm.

Day 2: Explore Bakewell and The Monsal Trail
Start at Chatsworth Farm Shop to pick up some high quality local cheese, meats, and bread for a picnic. From there head to Bakewell, a historic market town known for its architecture and the original Bakewell Tart. The Old House Museum is the oldest remaining building in Bakewell and here you can find a small exhibition of local life and artefacts.
For the afternoon, walk or bike The Monsal Trail. The popular trail follows an old railway line through the limestone dales and over the Headstone Viaduct, offering exceptional views across Monsal Dale. Enjoy your picnic lunch along the way before returning to your hotel to relax and try a drink at the bar.

Day 3: Hiking and Castleton
Dedicate your third day to exploring some of the Peak District’s most iconic landscapes. Mam Tor offers a rewarding circular hike with sweeping views across the Edale Valley, Kinder Scout, and the Derwent Moors. Stanage Edge is another option, with a four mile stretch of dramatic gritstone edge and features fans may recognise from Pride & Prejudice.

Stop for lunch at Castleton before going to explore its historic sites, including the ruins of Peveril Castle, one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses. Nearby, go underground at Blue John Cavern with its series of caverns formed in the limestone strata. Here you can find fossilised remains of marine animals in the stone itself.

On your final evening, treat yourself to an immersive dining experience at The Cavendish Hotel. Each evening at 7pm, up to six guests are welcomed to this behind the scenes view of the kitchen in action, inclusive of a 5 course surprise menu and a glass of champagne.

Day 4: Outdoor Activities and a Fond Farewell to the Peak District
On your final day, embrace nature with outdoor activities like rock climbing, caving, or horseback riding. For climbers, popular routes like Froggatt Edge and Burbage are easy to access with a short walk from a car park.
Several activity centres in the Peak District offer an exhilarating day of caving under the guidance of a suitably trained and qualified instructor. The centres will provide all the necessary equipment; wetsuit, oversuit, helmet, light and wellies. All you need are some warm clothes.
Horse riding in Derbyshire and the Peak District is a wonderful way to experience the landscape from a different perspective. There are a variety of horse riding trails and pony trekking routes for you to explore, as well as some excellent horse riding centres.
For a gentler end to your visit, take a stroll through the quiet village lanes of Beeley to see the brook and take in the Peak District scenery.
