Whether you’re after gentle strolls or challenging hikes, here are some of the best walks in the Peak District to inspire your next adventure.
Monsal Trail
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 9 miles
The Monsal Trail, once part of the 1863 Manchester-Buxton-Matlock railway, is now a flat, accessible pathway managed by the Peak District National Park. Stretching between Blackwell Mill and Bakewell, it weaves through tunnels, over viaducts, and alongside historic buildings. A highlight is the breathtaking view from the Headstone Viaduct at Monsal Head.
Ideal for families and wheelchair users, the trail is part of the ‘Miles Without Stiles’ initiative, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors. After your walk, unwind at one of our nearby inns in Bakewell, offering hearty meals and refreshing drinks.

The Roaches to Lud’s Church
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 7 miles
The Roaches, named after the French word ‘roches’ (rocks), offer a rugged and dramatic landscape overlooking Tittesworth Reservoir. As you climb, you’ll pass the mysterious Doxey Pool, said to be home to a water spirit, and reach weathered rock formations at the summit. Descend into Lud’s Church at the end, a deep, moss cavern that’s full of history and be transported into another world. This atmospheric route was even featured in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
