The Times and Sunday Times have named The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow Best Place to Stay in the UK 2025.

The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow has been named The Times and The Sunday Times Best Place to Stay in the UK 2025 and the Best Place to Stay for the Central Region. Following a total refurbishment by renowned interior designer Nicola Harding in close partnership with Laura Burlington, The Cavendish reopened its doors in July 2024.
The Times and Sunday Times Best Places to Stay Guide focuses on things that really matter; hotels with the essentials of comfort, great service and value, as well as personality and warmth. Describing The Cavendish, the guide says, “an impressive top-to-toe refurb has added extra sparkle to this arty escape in the Derbyshire Dales”. The judges praised its 28 impressive bedrooms, its cosy bar and elegant dining room, its sensational food, and striking Peak District views.
Laura Burlington comments:“I am grateful to Nicola Harding and her team who have thoughtfully and sensitively reimagined The Cavendish and created the perfect place to explore the Chatsworth Estate and wider Peak District from. We are thrilled that these efforts have been recognised by The Times and Sunday Times and it’s a testament to our wonderful team who work hard to create a very special place.”
Set on the Chatsworth Estate, with doorstep access to its historic house, garden and parkland, as well as the beautiful landscapes and villages of Derbyshire and the Peak District, The Cavendish is a unique rural retreat. Last summer, the hotel unveiled an extensive refurbishment, drawing inspiration from Chatsworth and celebrating the best in local craftsmanship. Artwork has been sourced from the family’s private collection with notable pieces from Elisabeth Frink, Phyllida Barlow and Jeremy Deller, while black and white historic family photos adorn the bar. The 28 characterful and comfortable bedrooms feature vintage-inspired interiors complete with antique furniture, stone fireplaces, locally woven fabrics and glazed ceramic bedside lamps made by a member of the Chatsworth team. The hotel’s two restaurants – The Gallery and The Garden Room – celebrate food from the estate and the Peak District’s best-known producers.
